Role Play

No, no, not that kind of roll play... For the longest time I was so against role play as a benefit to sales acumen, but that objection was largely due to the awkwardness that it entailed. It's awkward, yes, and that doesn't really go away, but the intent behind it is what should really be focused on. Surely anyone out there would appreciate some CPR training before having to resuscitate someone back for real. It's the same as practice before the big game or rehearsal before the curtain is drawn. You don't go into those situations cold for risk of failure.

Various scenarios should be thrown at the seller to build the skills needed for the real world. And role play should be a safe place. Screwing up in role play is so much better than blowing a deal in reality. Make sure that is clear out of the gate so those involved don't mistake it for a graded performance exercise. Also, it has do be done with routine lest it get taken for a one-off exercise without meaning. My point, set some ground rules ahead of time to make the most of the exercise.

If you haven't role played in awhile, try it out. What's the worst that could happen? You bumble your way through it and you look like an amateur. So what? This is practice and practice makes us better.

Stoked!
